My domain reseller (e.g. GoDaddy) is encouraging me to buy an SSL/TLS Certificate for my domain. Should I pay for it?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! Our SSL/TLS Certificates are FREE and INCLUDED WITH YOUR PURCHASE of Managed Security Service. If you buy a Certificate from a reseller, YOU ARE PAYING MORE for https:!
Here’s an IMPORTANT point that Certificate resellers don’t clarify: The Certificate is JUST ONE PART of activating https: security. It only validates your website domain. Once you get a Certificate, it must still be generated, installed, and maintained on your web server. We do this for you with our Managed Security Service. (And if the reseller was your web host, you’d have to pay them extra for the same help.)
Managed Security Service is the ONLY requirement to activate https: on your SuccessWebsite system. Our included SSL/TLS Certificates are just as effective as any others you’d pay for. And we take care of all the setup and maintenance!
Again, to make sure you’re crystal clear: Buying a Certificate from a reseller is NOT a cheaper option over our Managed Security Service. It’s an unnecessary waste of your money!
How do I activate https: security for my SuccessWebsite system? What does it cost?
Unless included as part of your Success package, you will need our Managed Security Service to activate https: security.
We take care of all the details for you! Just tell us which domains you need secured and we’ll register and install the appropriate Certificates. We’ll configure your website for TLS (the current preferred security standard) and make sure it displays the green padlock symbol to all visitors. And we’ll automatically renew your Certificates when they expire.*
https: requires an SSL/TLS Certificate to validate each domain, therefore we price our service based on the number of domains you want secured. Managed Security Service starts from $120/YEAR to secure one domain. We offer bundle pricing so you can secure ALL the domains you use in your marketing.
Not every domain you use in your online marketing may need to be secured. “Redirect” or “Parked” domains (such as when a visitor types “yorkregionhomesales.com” and is redirected to “craigproctorsite.com”) do not need security Certificates. (In this example, only “craigproctorsite.com” would need to be secured.) Your Success representative can check your current domains and help you figure out what level of Managed Security Service you need.

Do I really need https:?
https: is completely optional — your website will continue to work just fine without it. BUT it provides so many benefits you should really consider it a “must-have”. First, Google is now ranking secure sites higher than non-secure sites, so you get a bump in your SEO and potentially more traffic. Second, the green padlock is a huge reputation boost for your current clients and new leads – it shows you care about their personal information and want to keep it secure. Finally, consider your own browsing habits – do YOU feel comfortable entering your personal information on a site labelled “Not secure”? If you want to capture maximum leads, you need to secure your site(s)!
What exactly is “SSL/TLS”?
SSL/TLS is a standard security technology for creating encrypted connections between your website and a visitor’s web browser. (It’s actually two different technologies – “Secure Sockets Layer” and “Transport Layer Security”. Our web servers use TLS, which is the current preferred standard, but most of the world knows it as SSL, which is why we refer to both.)
Once the secured connection is created, data passing between your site and the visitor is scrambled for protection against hackers. The green padlock, “Secure” label and “https:” address confirm the connection is secure for both your leads and Google’s ranking systems.
What is an “SSL/TLS Certificate”?
For an https: secured connection to work, a Security Certificate is required to establish proof that you own your website domain. When a visitor connects to your site, the certificate is validated and an encrypted connection is created.
